You did it!! You made the decision to do a boudoir shoot, but now you’re scrambling. “What the heck do I wear?” When choosing looks for your boudoir shoot there are a lot of things to consider, but not to worry, we’ve got your back! Here are 5 steps to finding the perfect boudoir outfit ideas for your shoot with Three Boudoir!
STEP 1: Choosing what to wear for boudoir photos is a personal choice that ultimately depends on your comfort level and the overall look and feel you want to achieve! I always like to find inspiration first. What is your boudoir style? Are you going for a classic, vintage look or maybe a more modern, edgy style? Do you want to look for sexy boudoir outfits or maybe modest boudoir outfits? Once you hone in on a feel, head over to pinterest or our instagram and start saving your favorites!
STEP 2: Preparing for a boudoir shoot with us is all about celebrating your body exactly as you are, right now. When you think about outfits you wear that make you feel most confident – whether that’s in the bedroom or just on the street is up to you – pull from that for this next step! Find outfits that enhance your favorite features to really help you bring the heat during your shoot because if there’s one thing we know for sure, when you are feeling yourself in your shoot – IT SHOWS! 🔥 If you’re not sure what you love most about yourself, grab a mirror and get ready to compliment the person looking back at you! I sometimes find it’s easiest to start at the top and work your way down.
“Wow, look at those eyebrows! They’re big and bold just like my personality.”
“Ya know, I love that my eyes look just like my moms and sisters. Bright green on any given day, but the prettiest teal blue when I’m wearing the right shade.”
*Keep going – you’re doing it!!!*
“I love my collar bones and how dainty they make my chest feel even though I have a larger bust! Maybe I should wear that necklace I got for our 5th anniversary?”
The ideas of what you already have in your wardrobe will start popping into your head so you can start shopping your own closet! Start thinking about how you can enhance your favorite assets with clothes you already own or ones you’d love to get for your shoot!
We have an incredible style guide that you can pull inspiration from & also have a storefront filled with our favorite items! Be sure to check these out because it makes shopping SO much easier.
STEP 3: Determining your body type and choosing outfits to enhance it! These are just tips, so take them as a little guideline to help you if you’re lost, but don’t think that you can’t try something out just because it’s under a body type that’s different from the one you’re rocking!
Hourglass: If you have an hourglass figure, choose outfits that emphasize your waist, such as a corset or a bustier. High-waisted undies can also accentuate your curves.
Apple-shaped: If you have an apple-shaped body, choose outfits that draw attention to your legs, such as a babydoll dress or a teddy. A V-neckline can also help elongate your torso.
Pear-shaped: If you have a pear-shaped body, choose outfits that emphasize your upper body, such as a push-up bra or a bustier. A thong or other minimal coverage bottoms can also help elongate your legs.
Athletic: If you have an athletic body type, choose outfits that create the illusion of curves, such as a corset or a bustier. Ruffles and lace can also add feminine details.
Petite: If you are petite, choose outfits that elongate your legs, such as high-waisted panties or a garter belt with stockings. Avoid overly long pieces that can overwhelm your frame.
Remember, these are just general guidelines, and the most important thing is to choose outfits that make you feel comfortable and confident. Experiment with different styles and see what works best for your body type and personal style.
STEP 4: Order ahead of time and make sure you are TRYING THINGS ON! I can’t tell you how many times we’ve had clients show up for shoots without trying on their lingerie, only to find out it doesn’t fit. When you’re deciding what to purchase, don't be afraid to consider different types of lingerie that you’ve never tried before! From classic bra and panty sets to bodysuits and corsets – there are endless options for you to choose from!
You want to make sure when choosing sizes that things aren’t pinching or too tight. We’ll be adjusting your garments as you move through the shoot to make sure they look perfect, but you’ll have 3 different looks during your time with us, so you don’t want your outfits leaving lines all over you.
STEP 5: Don't forget about accessories: jewelry, stockings, shoes, and props add fun details for your team to capture in your photos! This is also such a great way to show off things that are important to you or give life to your personality in your photos!
Remember when you’re choosing your accessories that you can do WHATEVER YOU WANT! If you want to wear sneakers instead of heels, do it! If you want to bring in a surfboard, we’re going to find a way to incorporate it! Just be sure to read the fine print on things we do not allow at shoots and make sure to reach out to our team if you have any questions!
Ultimately, the most important thing is that you choose outfits that make you feel beautiful and confident. Bring some options and our team is going to help you sort through them and tell you what they think will work best! These outfits are just a little piece of the puzzle to help you feel your best while you’re with our team. The real piece de resistance is YOU! When you’re hopping into your first pose just remember to have fun with it! This is a photoshoot where you can let go of everything in a judgment free zone and just focus on how the experience makes you feel. We can’t wait to meet you and see what you bring!
